I ordered up my firewall forward kit from Van's today. I needed to delete about 12 things from the standard kit since there isn't a kit for the IO-360 with vertical induction. Also, I have some stuff already like the prop gov, exhaust, etc.. I also didn;t get Van's engine mounts. I will go with the Lord mounts. I have heard a lot of good things about the Lords giving a smoother ride. We shall see. After fiddling with the aft canopy, I realized I needed to notch the aft canopy forward bottom corner to clear the angle that supports the roll bar. Here is the notch shape I decided to use. And here it is in place. Fits like a glove. Then I played around forever with the fit between the front and aft canopies. You know how I was trying to get them to be flush before I drilled it? Well that was a dumb idea. When the aft canopy gets drilled to the top aft skin, it pulls it back a little at the forward corners. So there is really no way to force the front of the aft canopy to sit on the rollbar the way it will when it is drilled to trim it properly. OK, will do Van's way! Anyways, I wanted to trace the aft end of the forward canopy to have a line I can work with for the aft canopy alignment. And here the line is on the rollbar. Time to take the front canopy off.....again. And then I put the aft canopy in place for the drilling tomorrow. Too tired tonight to start something stressful like drillin' plexi.
