The pink 3/4" insulation I used under my carpeting has degraded to a point where it was pretty much collapsed where the heel of my foot would rest on it. It also didn't offer that much sound protection - in fact, when I would lift my foot from it, the engine noise would somewhat drastically change making me subconsciously think there was an engine issue happening. I needed to find a better replacement. 3/4" thick, lightweight, and somewhat reasonably priced. Ability to resist fire is also a plus.

I ended up settling on BXI Sound Absorption mats. from Amazon. They come in a 6-pack of 3/8" thick, 16" x 12" rectangles for $21.95. Two packs of 6 are required to do both sides of an RV-7. Layer two on top of each other and it gives my 3/4" of necessary thickness. Link here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077Q2HYMW. They really make a difference and are somewhat hard to ignite. If exposed to a small flame by a lighter, they do not ignite, and they just shrink with no detectable fumes. However, when I used a torch (propane and MAP) it caused the mat to ignite. Buyer beware! It is safer than the pink foam which would ignite easier.
