Today turned out completely unexpectedly from what I was planning. I recently sold my AFS AOA Pro to a guy in Virginia. I was planning on installing it, but it was too big for my panel. The guy who purchased it live in Virginia, not too far from me. As an excuse, I was going to drop it off at KHWY, then fly over to "The Salmon Farm" (53VG) on the Eastern shore of VA to take the owner of the grass strip up on a free lunch, and to meet up with some fellow RV'ers. Weather wasn't in my favor for that plan. My friend Jack called me up and said a bunch of people were heading up to Williamsport, PA (KIPT). The weather north of KDMW was to die for -- almost completely the opposite of south of KDMW, where every airport's METAR was calling for IFR all day.

When we took off, it seemed fine, but there was a thin layer at 1,000' AGL that we found a hole to poke through. After that, it was clear sailing due north. I was able to grab this GoPro footage of Jack and myself in formation for the flight up.

It was a small crowd up at Williamsport, but we made the best of it. The restaurant here is quite nice. Here's a shot of the attendees of the gathering.

The flight back was just as uneventful as the flight up to Williamsport. Clear skies and low winds. Plus it was nearly 65 degrees. What a great day to be flying.

Back on the ground I needed to face the harsh reality it was getting colder out, and I needed to install my pre-heater on the airplane. I thought I could save a few bucks this year on the prepaid SIM card from T-Mobile, which is how I send messages to the hangar heater to turn it on. I was able to score a free SIM card with a promition T-Mobile was offering. However, it took HOURS to get it enabled, with a few phone calls. Next time I will visit the store and not worry about the extra $2.00 this method saved me. It was definitely not worth it, considering I don't ever use more then $8 every 3 months (SIMS expire after 3 months without being refilled). Also, when I visit the store, the SIM is activated within 5 minutes.

Another GREAT DAY WITH THE RV! Jack and I finished off the day enjoying a few beers and sharing stories about raising hell in college. It's amazing because Jack is nearly twice my age, but we get along as if we're both still in college! The only thing better than the RV is the people who fly them!
