December 1 today and it was chilly in the hangar. The 125,000 BTU heater fired right on up and provided some needed warmth to the hangar. I read that when the impulse coupled mag is installed, you should head the impulse coupling clicking when each cylinder is at TDC. I was hearing the impulse clicking at nowhere near TDC's. My mag was timed wrong. So I retimed my mag and got everything looking good. The impulse was clicking at TDC on every cylinder. Great. So I fired it up and did a mag test. Dead mag. I was pretty pissed now since I was sure I got the issue worked out. I removed the top plug to determine where TDC was. I took the bottom plug out of #1, and disconnected all other cylinders from the mag lead. I wanted to see where the spark was firing. When the #1 cylinder was at TDC, the #2 cylinder was getting the spark. Ah! I must of timed the engine when #1 was at the top of its exhaust stroke and not its compression stroke. The engine was timed basically 180 degrees from how it should be. I quickly reinstalled the mag again (I'm getting good at this) and the engine ran perfectly. I ran through all of the tests for the engine - mag drop, fuel pressure (mechanical and electrical pump), idle speed, prop smoothness/cycling and static RPM. Everything was in proper order! The mag works! The runup was very successful. Every test went flawlessly. Mag check, prop cycle, static RPM and idle. All I have to do is reinstall the cowls and wheelpants and the RV will be ready to fly again! Notice: Undefined variable: categoryid in /Websites/rvplane.com/public_html/main.php on line 160
