I finished drilling the bottom skins to the ribs and bulkheads. Next I needed to rotate the center fuselage to fit the bottom F-623 side ribs. My camera was having a bad day and decided to take fuzzy pictures today. I supported the F-704 rib with some 4x4's to keep it in this position. This is the aft end of the F-623 rib. Its forward flange is bent inboard which looks like it could fit around the F-704. However, this is a leftover relic from the RV-6, and it needs to be trimmed off. Van's instructions and plans are pretty vague on this. This is the forward side of the F-623. The red line indicates where it needs to be trimmed. Likewise, the aft end needs to be trimmed. I ran by Lowes today to pick up some 7/16" bolts for holding the two sections of the F-704 together. Boy oh boy, 7/16" hardware is EXPENSIVE. 13 bucks for 4 bolts, 6 nuts and 8 washers. Here is the forward side of the F-623 trimmed. Notice how it buts up even with the F-704's flange. There are some clips I need to fabricate that will go on top of the 623 and 704. I was having issues with the side alignment of the 623 with the skin so I called it a night.
