I called up Van's today and found out that my wings shipped 2 days ago (Wednesday, 3/15). Barbera gave me the ABF tracking number. After I entered it into the web page, it looks they will deliver them on 3/27. I was going through local builder Bill Cloughley's builders log and he just got his finishing kit. He called up ABF and picked it up at the warehouse to save some money. I am going to see how long the spar box is and if there is a truck I can borrow to fit it all in. My folks have a real full sized pickup and my office has a full size van. I am thinking that the van is the way to go. I will wait to hear back from Bill before I make a decision.

The RV community really amazes me. Bill wrote back quickly to let me know that they picked up all RV shipments with a nissan titan pickup without much problem. He only warned that the spar box stuck way the hell out the back. He was also nice enough to get me the dimensions of the wing crate. Here they are:

BoxDimensions
Skins32" x 96" x 13"
Spars185" x 10" x 9"

Also I called up ABF to see what the deal is with picking it up and not having it delivered. First off, both ladies at ABF were super friendly. The lady at the first office said it wasn't a big deal and gave me the local office to call to arrange the pickup. The lady at the local baltimore office said it wasn't a problem to pick it up, and to call again next week to double check the arrival. She called me back about 10 minutes later to let me know the price of the shipping - $326. I joked if that was with the reduced pickup rate....she said that she forgot to figure that in, so it would only be $261.45. Definitely not as bad as I thought it would be, and to save $64.55, even better. All it's going to cost me is gas to top off the companys truck. Last time I checked gas prices, I might be better off paying the 65 bucks!!
