I was flying from central Indiana (KOXI) to Minneapolis (KSGS) a few weeks ago and noticed when I took off from OXI and leaned out the engine it was running rough on less than about 8 GPH, which was rare - usually I can lean out to the low 7's. Looking at my engine monitor I saw low CHT's and high EGT's on #2. The engine seemingly was running fine - leaning out the engine caused the #2 EGT to keep on climbing - it never went down. I found a happy spot for it around 8.5 GPH.

High EGT's to me meant fuel wasn't fully burning in the cylinders, so I was thinking it was a partially open exhaust valve or an ignition issue. Upon landing I performed a mag check and to my surprise it passed. I was sort of baffled. I did notice it ran rougher on the Slick magneto, so I narrowed my search to something to do with the ignition on #2 off of the magneto.

The first thing I did when I got back home was pull the plug and check the resistance - open! Bad plug! I replaced the fine wire plug and went for a ride and I was happy to see my CHT's and EGT's back where they should be.
