Wow, over two weeks since I last got a chance to work on the airplane. Life's been a little chaotic to say the least lately, but things are settling down and back to work on the RV's inspection. I finished up the empennage tonight, not finding anything out of the ordinary except for a nut or two that needed a quarter turn. Hey, if you don't find anything, that means you're not looking hard enough, right??

I replaced the internal battery of the GTN650 a few days ago. I wasn't expecting much of a difference in operation of the GTN650, as the battery I removed seemed to be outputting its rated voltage. I figured there was nothing lost installing the new battery and trying it out.

Completely shocked, when I turned on the GTN650 after reinstalling it, it wasn't complaining about a weak battery. This is progress!

I pulled the airplane out of the hangar and something that hasn't happened in a while was happening! The GTN650 was immediately seeing satellites. A few weeks ago on my last flight, it didn't pick up any birds until I was finished my runup.

2:30 later, I was locked onto 3D nav. How a weak internal battery caused this issue is beyond me. I am not 100% confident my issue is resolved yet, but this is certainly promising. Time will only be the true test. Nevertheless, one less thing to be concerned out, and other great day at the hangar.
