I spent most of today going over the engine as part of the annual inspection. I was quite happy to see the top of the airbox didn't seem to have a crack in it! Apparently my extra bracing has helped out a lot. When I went to remove the air filter, I noticed a crack on the top side of the FAB. Upon further inspection, I found a metal tab that is used to secure the airbox had broken off. This isn't a safety issue, as the metal tab broke off on the outside of the filter and didn't have the ability to be sucked into the engine. The missing piece! Apparently when I beefed up the airbox support, it just moved the vibration point from one location to another. I will make a thicker doubler for this to hopefully get closed to fully mitigating the cracking issue I have on my FAB.
